The Nasarawa State University (NSUK) community is grappling with grief and shock following the suicide of a 21-year-old student, Maikeffi Redemption Sarah. A 100-level Microbiology student, Sarah was found dead in her off-campus residence on Friday evening, December 9, 2023.

According to reports, Sarah had been battling deep emotions and depression, which led to her tragic decision. Sources close to her revealed that she had been struggling with personal issues and had recently expressed feelings of despair to her friends and family.

Upon hearing news of Sarah's distress, fellow students and neighbors rushed to her off-campus residence near the Family and Friends Hotel area, opposite the university. They attempted to save her life using palm oil, a traditional remedy believed to counteract poisonous substances. Unfortunately, their efforts were unsuccessful.

The news of Sarah's suicide sent shockwaves through the NSUK community. Students, faculty, and staff mourned the loss of a vibrant young life. Sarah's friends and family described her as a kindhearted and intelligent young woman with a promising future.

The Nasarawa State Police Command has launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Sarah's death. Police personnel from the Angwan Lambu Police Division have been deployed to the area to gather evidence and interview witnesses.

The tragedy has highlighted the growing concern about mental health issues among students. Many students have expressed their own struggles with stress, anxiety, and depression. Calls are now growing for NSUK to provide better mental health resources and support for its students.

Sarah's death is a stark reminder of the importance of mental health awareness and support. It serves as a call to action for universities and communities to provide resources and support systems for students struggling with mental health challenges.

Sarah will be remembered for her kind spirit, intelligence, and bright smile. Her tragic death has left a void in the NSUK community, but her memory will continue to inspire others to seek help and support when facing difficult times.
